The Process of Creating BlackBooks.com
This purpose for this website is to allow customers to view the inventory, learn about events, and ask questions about the store. Black Books hopes that this website allows customers to connect with them and creates a welcoming website that will encourage them to visit that store in person. The process of creating this website was fun and educational. The first step to creating this website is to have clearly defined objectives for what the website would be used for. The second step was creating each page individually to meet the needs of the customer. Finally, using the knowledge gained through many resources, the style choices for the website were put into place to help meet the objectives that were given.
Defending Blackbooks.com
The specific design choices for this website were made to make it feel welcoming to customers, be easy to navigate, and clearly show what the business is. For all pages, I chose a font that was easy on the eyes but also welcoming. The color scheme was chosen based on colors that are warm, welcoming, and calming to help customers feel relaxed when visiting the site.
- For the Home page, I chose to keep things rather simple. I believe that keeping the homepage simply gives a welcoming feel and does not overwhelm the visitors on the site.
- For the Inventory Page, I wanted to create a simple table that displays what books are currently in stock at the store. The inventory color collated to show the In Stock and Out of Stock so that the customer can easily identify what is currently available.
- For the Events Page, this was a simple table that lays out the upcoming events that will be happening at the store. I chose to only do a few events so that it was not overwhelming for the customers but also gave them a look into the next few weeks at what to expect on those days if they made the decision to visit the store.
- For the About Page, this page was created to give a brief description of where blacks books started and what to expect when the customers came into the store. There is also a form that customers can fill out if they have any questions or concerns that they would like to ask. This was done so that if they had an inquiry outside of business hours, they could get a response within a few days.
- For the Store hours Page, this was created to inform customers of when the store will be open as well as gives them the information on where to find the store.
Opportuniteis for Improvement and Growth
In the future, I would like to add a page for placing orders at the store. This could be incorporated into the inventory page where customers will be able to purchase books that are in stock and have the option to have them mailed to them or do an in-store pickup. I would also like to update the events page to be a calendar for each month so that the customers can get a visualization of the whole month and what day of the week the events will be happening. I think adding these two things would really improve the website and would hopefully help the website gain more traffic. I hope to continue to improve this website in my free time so that I can get more experience in creating websites.
